ARCH 744: Digital Fabrication - David Ruy

For this elective in digital fabrication techniques, we were charged with creating a CNC milled block which would tesselate to create a wall system that is both dynamic and complex. We began by experiementing with forms until we came to the final product of curvilinear bricks. The profile of the brick maximizes the contact patch between bricks to increase friction, and the surface treatment of the bricks creates a dynamic and aggressive overall form to the wall. At the end of the semester we had the opportunity to fabricate several prototypes of our blocks by CNC-milling the masters out of foam, creating rubber molds from the masters and then creating Rockite duplicate final pieces.
