ARCH 402 - Anselmo Canfora- Chalmette, Louisiana

This transitional shelter for flood victims in Louisiana is designed for deconstruction and composed of recycled cardboard ribs, a steel sub- and super-structure and a tensile fabric skin. This quickly assembled community, including a shared sanitation unit, can be placed in any open lot, or even someone’s back yard. Completely off the grid and self-sustaining, this community is built by the neighborhood for the neighborhood and once it is no longer needed, can be disassembled and reused in the residents’ homes, yards, and the concrete pads which the units sit on remain behind and become community spaces. The final piece of the system is a tension fabric superstructure which covers multiple units, protecting them from the sun, wind, and rain.
