sweeping disequilibrium
ARCH 701 - Peter McCleary - Paris, France
A pedestrian bridge connecting the Ile Saint Louis and Ile de la Cite in Paris, France. This bridge connects several historic landmarks including Notre Dame de Paris and is heavily used by locals and tourists. The first design concept for this bridge was to separate user types based on speeds into a slower upper deck and a faster lower deck. Structurally, these decks counter-balance each other in terms of rotation as well as tension and compression, leaving only the vertical load to be carried by the abutments. Slower users travel over the upper deck and are afforded views of the Hotel de Ville and the Institute Monde Arab. Faster users travel along the lower path and travel across the river with the least amount of obstruction as possible. |
